Heart of Ice by Lis Wiehl Review

These are my personal thoughts and opinions of Heart of Ice by Lis Wiehl. I did not particularly like this book. Most fiction books by Christian publishers that I have read have Christian themes running through the book refer to scripture or something of that kind but this book did not. I guess if you just wanted a fiction book to read this wouldn’t be too bad. I just felt this book made me feel very disheartening and disturbed.  I would not recommend this book to any of my friends or family to read. I will actually probably be deleting it from my Kindle. This book though is an easy and quick read. It is easy to keep up with the characters and settings and things of that nature. I do not think that this is a book for young minds to read. I feel that it is more of a hindrance instead of an encouragement that I like fiction books to be. I want to read a fiction book to think about happy things not depressing things. I just felt as if there were no uplifting parts of this story. Sorry for such a downer review but I was not pleased with this book in the slightest.

The Velveteen Bible Review

These are my personal thoughts and opinions of The Velveteen Bible from Tommy Nelson Publishers. This is a precious first bible. It comes in a protective keepsake box in which you can store it. There is some kind of magnet in the lid because it will normally stay closed. The box is covered in "velvet" like material making it a sensory experience for young ones. I like that this bible is in New King James Version because I personally feel that is as close to the original as possible but still able to be understood. This bible is about eleven hundred pages approximately. One disadvantage is that the print is quite small but is still fine nonetheless. There is a cool reference in the very back of the bible that is a tool to read your bible through in a year. It lists the days and then which scriptures to read in the morning and then also in the evenings. There are three sections of pictures dispersed throughout the bible. The pictures are of a sweet watercolor like painting of animals with a verse printed. I think these would be very cute as memory verses or something like that. All in all I am pleased with this bible as a first bible for my daughter.

A Bug Collection DVD Box Set Review

This is my personal opinions of A Bug Collection DVD Boxed Set by Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends. I think that these videos are a wonderful tool in teaching children valuable lessons. With most children's shows or movies you have to be very careful about what they contain even though they say they are for children, but with Max Lucado's movies I do not even have to think twice. I also love that on the menu under extras, you can listen to a story and it has pictures and the words on the screen so you can basically have storytime. Even though my daughter is only 7 months we watched these videos and I was even interested. The videos that were contained in our DVD Boxed Set contained Milo the Mantis Who Wouldn't Pray, Buzby and the Grumble Bees, and Hailey & Bailey's Silly Fight. Obviously from their titles they are about prayer, behaving, and getting along with each other. 160 I love that there are other movies besides just Veggie Tales that I can allow my children to watch. I love both of these series and will be on the lookout for more movies from this collection. So all in all, I would definitely recommend these movies to other moms and dads of young children who care what their children are watching. We have to watch what is being poured into our children.

Book Review of What In The World Is Going On

So What in the World is Going on by Dr. David Jeremiah is a great read. It is so informative on what is actually happening in our world today and how that applies to biblical principles. He makes the reading enjoyable and very easy to understand. While reading this I kept leaning over trying to tell my husband all about it. I finally gave up since I had been telling him so much and just told him that he needed to read it himself. :) Dr. Jeremiah discusses topics such as the oil crisis, the resurgence of Russia, the new axis of evil, the importance of Israel, and the new powers of the European Union. It is an awesome read and will remind you that even in the end times, in ALL times, that our Lord Jesus is in control. We are never to doubt or fear because he is guiding all things and all will come out for his will and purposes. So if you are lost while listening to people discuss what the big deal with Israel is you should pick up this book and find out for yourself the delights of God's word.

Leaving

Matthew 8:34 -- "... and when they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their region."

WOW! Can you imagine seeing the holy Son of God and immediately asking Him to leave? Word had most likely spread from nearby regions to their area of His miracles and healings, yet they asked Him to leave. Don't we as believers ask Jesus to leave certain areas of our lives when we try to take the reins of control back? He is the Creator Lord of heaven yet we try to control our lives and our futures. Hmmmm, crazy idea huh? He knows the very infinitesimal millisecond that everything will happen in our lives but still we try to control Him. In essence what we are doing is robbing ourselves of blessings that He may have in store for us. What areas immediately sneak into your mind as you read this? Birth control, lack of faith... etc? He is the Lord and His name shall be exalted.

"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!" Matthew 7:11

Book Review for BookSneeze

Cast of Characters, Common People in the Hands of an Uncommon God by Max Lucado is a wonderful book. This book is a collection of short stories about people in the bible. Some of the individuals are ones you have heard of and remember their stories; others are not as well-known. Max leads you to think about these common stories in a totally different light and to in turn examine yourself in that light as well. One example is Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father. Who would have dwelled and thought on the matter of Joseph pacing outside while Mary is inside laboring to give life to the Creator of the Universe? He is being brought into this world in a filthy stall. Who wouldn’t rail at God at the unfairness of it all? Then Joseph remembers that Jesus is God’s son, He has a purpose in the timing and in the place of Jesus’ birth. That is just one example of the many stories that are included in this read. Max puts a twist on well-known stories that make you think and yearn to dig deeper into God’s word and contemplate the thoughts and feelings behind the people there in that time and age. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to others who think that they know all the stories, to challenge their views and make them seek to drink deeply of God.

New To This

So here I am writing on my first blog. I don't expect to come out of this as an author or to inspire many people, I first started a blog for the sole reason of doing book reviews for books offered for free from BookSneeze. If anything else comes of it then that is God's design and plan and I will gratefully follow his leading. So The Musings of a Meandering Sheep, huh? Yeah, kind of a unlikely name but I know we are all sheep of the Good Shepherd and sometimes I've been known to be a little hard-headed. I don't always follow when I should, sometimes I like to try to lead. Meandering according to Webster is to follow a winding or intricate course. I think that this is the life a Christian leads; it is a winding and intricate course. Although meandering can also mean to wander aimlessly or casually without urgent destination, I greatly don't want my type following to be of this ilk. I want to follow with great urgency to the destination of being at home in my Shepherd's arms. I think that most Christians though do go through times when they just mosey on along being a slow poke about their walk with the Lord and they aren't on fire for Him. I don't want to be this way, I want to be red hot in my pursuit to follow Jesus, I want to seek Him daily and yearn to be the disciple that He created me to be. And frankly, I'm not there yet. There isn't nearly the amount of growth happening that I desire. And what to do? How to achieve that? It's all in the question and the searching. It's following after Jesus and asking Him on a continual basis to draw you close to Him, It's seeking His face in every situation you are put in, It's turning to Him when you most want to turn away. This searching and following is a lifelong commitment but aren't the best things that we value in this life aren't they worth waiting (or working) for? There are times when we feel like we have failed our calling but we have not, we are at a point in our lives where someone else is fulfilling theirs by being an inspiration to you. So, I guess these are the first musings of this meandering sheep, I know not all posts will be this intrinsic but this is just what spilled out of my mind and heart as I sat here and began to write.
